Westchester Declares State Of Emergency Due To Snowstorm

The state of emergency will last until Thursday.

WHITE PLAINS, NY — A local state of emergency was declared in Westchester county.

County Executive George Latimer said the emergency went into effect at 1 p.m. Monday and will end at 1 p.m. Thursday.

The emergency was declared "due to a disaster and emergency condition existing by reason of the occurrence of, and imminent threat of, widespread or severe damage, injury, loss of life and property resulting from a severe and prolonged snowstorm with high winds and low visibility."

According to the National Weather Service, snow is forecast to continue Monday afternoon and could be heavy at times. Freezing drizzle and more snow is possible for Monday night.

Snow could continue into Tuesday, the weather service said.
