1,000 Cancer Stories Drop Off Locations, Mailing Address & Final Days!

We're in the homestretch for this part of the campaign! It's not too late to join us by sending us your cancer stories.

This past weekend we handed out over 100 copies of the 1,000 Stories Campaign packet at the Making Strides of Breast Cancer Walk! We were able to hear lots of people stories right on the spot which is always so moving. We're really looking forward to reading the stories that come in from that event.

We have through October to collect your cancer stories! We have a few several options to make sure you can get them into us on time.

  • Now through October 25, the Mildred E. Strang Middle School will have a 1,000 Stories drop off box in the lobby! This is a great opportunity for families to talk & reflect about cancer experiences and write stories. Kids can also write stories about what a world without cancer might look like!
  • On October 23 from 3-9 we will be at the Jefferson Valley Mall with a live 1,000 Stories table! You can drop off any stories you have! We'll also be set up with a printer so you can print pictures on the spot & write your stories right then and there!
  • Mail in your stories to us through October (and we'll take them in the first few days of November too!) 1,000 Stories Campaign, PO Box 598, Yorktown Hts, NY 10598
  • Email them to us if needed to RFLofYorktownEvents@gmail.com

We need all the help we can get to get us to the 1,000 Stories goal! So if you or anybody you know has a story (or multiple) to share, please choose to help us & share!

Our goal is to collect 1,000 of these stories from our community of fighters and caregivers.

Why are we seeking your stories, you ask? We’re in the process of organizing a large fundraiser that would be greatly enjoyed by our community. In order to get the ball rolling, we need our community to come together to show that cancer is sadly a part of all our lives. We want to show that because cancer has affected so many of us in so many ways, that our community is taking a stance in the fight against this disease. We are looking to make an impactful, powerful statement by sharing our local stories. While more details will be to come, we hope that you will still choose to help us right here, right now.

So how can you be a part of this movement?

First, start off by making a list of the people in your life who have battled cancer. Whether they have passed or whether they are survivors, add them to your list. Then, we would like for you to find your favorite picture of each person & print them out. On the back of each picture; simply share a story.

You can share their story in any length of detail you’d like. The goal is to share who this person is, how their fight impacted you, why their story is important. You can share why you chose to join Relay in the fight against cancer- perhaps a particular person’s story influenced you to fight. If you’re sharing your personal story being a survivor- tell us how your life changed when you absorbed the words, “you have cancer”.

There is no limit to how many pictures you can send us to be added to this project. Please encourage your local family members, friends, coworkers, neighbors or Relay teammates to join us in this project as well. We want to hear from our surrounding towns in our area too, so please, pass this along to help us reach many in our community!
