1,000 Stories Campaign

Westchester Relay's Because...

Join us in an important local movement of sharing our stories, our passion, our fight.

We are asking you to share your story in a whole new way. Think about each separate person in your life who has fought cancer. Think about their face, their story, their fight and put it into words.

Our goal is to collect 1,000 of these stories from our

local community of fighters and caregivers.

Why are we seeking your stories, you ask? We’re in the process of organizing a large fundraiser that would be greatly enjoyed by our community. In order to get the ball rolling, we need our community to come together to show that cancer is sadly a part of all our lives. We want to show that because cancer has affected so many of us in so many ways, that our community is taking a stance in the fight against this disease. We are looking to make an impactful, powerful statement by sharing our local stories. While more details will be to come, we hope that you will still choose to help us right here, right now.

So how can you be a part of this movement?

First, start off by making a list of the people in your life who have battled cancer. Whether they have passed or whether they are survivors, add them to your list. Then, we would like for you to find your favorite picture of each person & print them out. On the back of each picture; simply share a story.

You can share their story in any length of detail you’d like. The goal is to share who this person is, how their fight impacted you, why their story is important. You can share why you chose to join Relay in the fight against cancer- perhaps a particular person’s story influenced you to fight. If you’re sharing your personal story being a survivor- tell us how your life changed when you absorbed the words, “you have cancer”.

There is no limit to how many pictures you can send us to be added to this project. Please encourage your local family members, friends, coworkers, neighbors or Relay teammates to join us in this project as well. We want to hear from our surrounding towns in our area too, so please, pass this along to help us reach many in our community!

Picture Formatting

• Please print your pictures in color where you are able
• Pictures should be at least printed in a 4x6 format but can be as large as 8.5x11
• Please send one picture per story
• Stories should be handwritten directly on the back of each picture
• People of all ages are encouraged to submit pictures & stories
• There is no limit to how many pictures & stories you can submit
