10 Local Opportunities In New York's Hottest Job Sector

YORKTOWN, NY — Ambulatory health care was the hottest category in the hottest industry sector in New York over the past year. During that time, 12 New York metro areas added private sector jobs, according to new data from the state Department of Labor. Three Hudson Valley metro regions were among the six with the most rapid employment growth from July 2016 to July 2017:
- New York City (+2.8%)
- Kingston (+2.5%)
- Orange-Rockland-Westchester (+2.0%)
- Watertown-Fort Drum (+1.6%)
- Dutchess-Putnam (+1.4%)
- Nassau-Suffolk (+1.3%)

Private educational and health services added the most jobs (+75,500) of any major industry sector over the past year. Sector job gains were mostly in health care and social assistance (+54,600), especially ambulatory health care (+29,900).
