175th Croton Dam Anniversary Presentations and Ceremony at Old Croton Dam on Oct. 8 All Set!
Hilltop Hanover Farm of Yorktown will host the presentations on four consecutive Saturdays in September and host the reception on Oct. 8
Croton Dam Presentations and Ceremony Now Complete
The 175th Croton Dam Anniversary Committee is proud to announce that all the details of the upcoming presentations in September and the ceremony and reception on October 8 at the Old Croton Dam are now complete.
Here’s the lineup for the presentations. All presentations are hosted by Hilltop Hanover Farm at 1271 Hanover St. in Yorktown. Call 962-2368 for information.

Saturday, September 9 at 1:00 – (all others at 12:00) Robert Giordano on “Trials and Tribulations of NYC Finding a Water Source in the 1700’s and Robert Waterhouse on “Implementing and Completing the Croton Dam and Aqueduct System in 1842.”
Saturday, 16 at 12:00 – Chris Tompkins on “The Tompkins’ Family Connections to Croton Water”

Saturday, September 23 at 12:00– Cornelia Cotton on “Historic Prints of the Old Croton Aqueduct”
Saturday, September 30 at 12:00 – Marc Cheshire on “How a Mighty River Was Dammed, Diverted, and Sacrificed to Save NYC from Fire and Pestilence and Create the Great Metropolis It is Today”
A question and answer period will follow each talk. Refreshments will be served. Please RSVP to Robert Giordano at Yorktownsbaoptonline.net. A suggested $10 donation that will assist Hilltop Hanover Farm’s educational program for children will be requested. You may come for one or all four sessions.
The culminating event will occur on Sunday, October 8 at 3:00 PM. Local officials and the general public are invited to the old Croton Dam Gatehouse in Yorktown to commemorate the 175th Anniversary of the Croton Dam. Join State Senator Murphy, County Legislator Kaplowitz, and Yorktown Councilman Lachterman – others are expected – in recognizing this momentous occasion. A reception will follow at Hilltop Hanover Farm – just five away from the Old Croton Dam Gatehouse. The suggested donation of $25 will benefit Hilltop Hanover Farm’s educational program for children.
