The Yorktown Athletic Club is sponsoring the sixth annual Murphy Youth Lacrosse Tournament in conjunction with the annual Matt Kull Yorktown High School Alumni Game. The Murphy Youth Lacrosse Tournament was founded in 2006 to honor Charlie Murphy who, along with Jim Turnbull, founded the lacrosse program in Yorktown.
In addition, the Murphy Tournament is a fundraiser for Matthew’s Mission and proceeds from the tournament will be donated to the Matt Kull Foundation which helps families of cancer patients at their time of need.
Kull, a 1997 Yorktown graduate, was an All-American player for the Huskers, who went onto become a starting defenseman at North Carolina. He passed away from lymphoma in 2000.
