Bear Sighting In Yorktown Friday

There have been bear sightings in the area during this summer.

YORKTOWN, NY — Another bear has been sighted in northern Westchester. Yorktown police sent out a message alerting residents to the sighting of a bear on Hanover Street in the area of Butler Court and Birdsall Drive.

Police are in the area and urge residents to use caution when outdoors.

They warn people to not approach the bear if they see it.

According to the state Department of Environmental Conservation, if you encounter a bear, never approach, surround or corner it. Bears aggressively defend themselves when they feel threatened.

You should never run from a bear. The DEC said to stay calm, speak in a loud and calm voice, slowly back away and leave the area.
