Tenure, the common core and state tests were just some of the topics raised at the Annual Spring Law Update hosted by Putnam/Northern Westchester BOCES for school district administrators. The update allows administrators to familiarize themselves with litigation risks and the latest legal issues affecting school policies and procedures.
The seminar was presented by Jay Girvin, partner in the law firm of Girvin and Ferlazzo, P.C., who also covered topics such as negotiating mistakes and how to avoid them, collective bargaining in difficult economic times, the internet and students’ first amendment rights, and legalities surrounding prayer in public.
Attendees examined some current legal cases and received guidance on how to accommodate special dietary needs and food allergies in the school setting. They looked at issues regarding equity for Title IX and Booster Club funds and rights and restrictions surrounding charitable fund raising.
