Buy your organic vegetable share at Hilltop Hanover Farm

Full and half-shares are available for purchase at Yorktown's historic Hilltop Hanover Farm

Vegetable Shares Available at Hilltop Hanover Farm

With the beginning of spring less than two months away, thoughts of enjoying freshly grown, organic vegetables starts to become a not too distant reality. If you are looking for a local and weekly source of produce, Hilltop Hanover Farm of Yorktown Heights is the place to consider. Presently, it still has some twenty- week vegetable shares available for $700 and half shares of ten weeks for $350.

Hilltop Hanover Farm provides the Community Supported Agriculture (CSA), a subscription-style farming partnership. In advance, members sign up for CSA shares. In return for this commitment, CSA members receive the freshest produce possible. They come to the Farm each (or every other) Tuesday or Thursday afternoon and select the pre-arranged amounts - from each vegetable bin (the half share folks would come alternate weeks). The organic crops are picked that morning and the HHF farm staff decides the allocation for each available crop. The weekly selections are then arranged “farm stand style” with signs designating the amount allowed per vegetable.

Some weeks one may be able to weigh five pounds of tomatoes as your share. Other weeks the amount may decrease depending upon that week’s production. The inherent risks of farming may impact crop yields. In all, there are 8 to 12 vegetables and herbs available for selection each week. CSA members usually leave with two large bags of produce that will easily accommodate a family of four or more. The weekly season begins in late spring and ends in mid October (20 weeks).

To download the CSA application or to obtain additional information, go to www.HilltopHanoverFarm.org. You may also call the HHF office at 962-2368. The number of shares still available is limited, so act now!
