Cell Phone Use Leads To Drug Charge For Yorktown Man: Police

He faces penal and traffic violations.

YORKTOWN, NY — Driving while using a cell phone led to a drug charge for a Yorktown man.

Yorktown Police said Matthew J. Daru, 20, of Yorktown was stopped when he was driving a gray Dodge Charger east on Route 6 because he was using his cell phone.

An investigation found that he was in possession of a marijuana and his car had inadequate front tires.

Daru was arrested and taken to police headquarters. He was charged with unlawful possession of marijuana, a penal law violation, and operating motor vehicle while cell phone in use and two counts of inadequate tire, vehicle and traffic law violations.

Daru was issued traffic summons and an appearance ticket for him to return to Yorktown Court April 11.

He was released on his own recognizance.
