Cheer On the Yorktown Cheerleaders: Post Your Well Wishes Here

The Yorktown High School Cheerleading Squad will be competing in the Westchester County Cheerleading Competition tonight.

Fall sports may have wrapped up, but the cheerleaders are still going strong. On Monday, the squad will compete in the Westchester County Cheerleading Invitational in White Plains.

“The girls always look forward to attending the County Center competition,” says varsity coach Danielle Pizzuto. “They love performing in front of the large audience filled with so many family members and friends.”

The event, which runs over two days and has been taking place for more than 60 years, features teams from high schools in Putnam and Westchester.

The Yorktown squad has been prepping for the season since before school started. “We went to a cheerleading camp over the summer and the team learned a lot about proper technique, which helped improve our stunting skills,” explains Pizzuto. “We also had a lot of fun cheering at football games in the fall, and the team is excited to cheer at basketball games and attend local competitions in the winter.

What do they hope to come away with tonight? “I hope the girls have a lot of fun at the County Center competition,” says Pizzuto. “We are attending a qualifying regional competition in a few weeks, so hitting their routine at County Center would boost their confidence and make them hopeful about qualifying.”
