Current, Past Lakeland Staff Co-Author Book on Instruction, Learning

The quartet did a book-signing in Mohegan Lake Oct. 14.

Four authors, three with ties to the Lakeland School District, discussed their book and signed copies at an Educator Reception at Barnes and Noble in Mohegan Lake, NY, on Tuesday, Oct. 14, from 4:30 to 7 p.m. The Reception was part of Barnes and Noble’s celebration of Educator Week.

According to the publishers Rowman and Littlefield website, “This book researches and reports on issues of current practice: e.g., teacher preparation, placement of students with special needs, implications for the average and above in the classroom and the financial costs driving placement decisions in the education system.

We examine the lowering of standards so all can pass tests, report on loss of engagement of students by middle school, and mourn the squandering of creativity to appease a mandate.”

Janet D. Mulvey Ph.D., is currently the Educational Director in a College support Program and Assistant Professor in School Leadership at Pace University in New York City. She also served as principal of Van Cortlandtville Elementary School.


Bruce Cooper, a retired full professor at Fordham University, taught in the Doctoral Educational Leadership program, and mentored aspiring school leaders. He has published more than 35 books.

Kathryn Accurso Ed.D., has been an elementary school teacher in the Lakeland Central School District for 22 years. She currently teaches second grade at Van Cortlandtville Elementary School. Dr. Accurso also teaches in the Mercy College School of Education.

Karen Gagliardi, Ed.D., has been principal of Thomas Jefferson Elementary School in the Lakeland School District for eight years now. She has also served as an assistant principal and a fourth grade teacher.
