Join other riders on a relatively easy route -- but in Westchester County, there are always hills. This ride goes via Routes 118 and 129 to Croton Dam Park, with return via Route 129 and the North County Trailway. The pace will be 9-11 miles per hour with a break at the dam. No one will be dropped.
49 mile loop from Yorktown to Ridgefield and back
Departs at 9 a.m. from the Yorktown Town Hall commuter parking lot.
This fairly hilly but very scenic route passes through Katonah, Pound Ridge, Vista, and North Salem with a rest stop in Ridgefield. Two groups will leave around the same time: a faster group for riders who can average 14-16 miles per hour, and a slower group at 13-15 miles per hour.
Helmets required. Road bicycles recommended – not mountain or hybrid designs. Bicycles must be in good mechanical condition. All riders should bring liquids and spare tubes and be prepared to ride at the speed listed above for the specified distance.
These activities are sponsored by the Yorktown Trail Town Committee and the Westchester Cycle Club as part of the Hudson River Valley Ramble. The annual Ramble (www.hudsonrivervalleyramble.com) celebrates the history, culture, and natural resources of the Hudson River Valley throughout September with a variety of guided outdoor adventures from Saratoga to New York City.
The Westchester Cycle Club (www.westchestercycleclub.org) is Westchester’s largest bicycling organization and is dedicated to educating the general public about bicycle safety and the benefits of bicycle riding.
The Yorktown Trail Town Committee (www.yorktowntrailtown.org) supports a sustainable Yorktown economy by connecting trail and park users to local businesses while celebrating Yorktown’s trails, parks, and open spaces.
