The Wild Lunch: Indigenous Edible Plants of the Hudson Valley with Evan Pritchard
Friday - May 6th, 7 p.m. – 9 p.m.
Hilltop Hanover Farm, 1271 Hanover Street, Yorktown Heights, NY/Barn F. This indoor workshop/lecture will feature Evan's powerpoint "The Foods of the Hunter-Gatherers of the Hudson Valley" which is subtitled in Munsee, a Delaware Indian" language that was spoken in Yorktown until recent centuries. This program includes photos of plants in the wild, followed by the animals the Munsee hunted. We will learn what the Munsee ate, how they prayed for help in hunting and gathering, how they communicated with plant spirits, how they "paid" for what they picked with tobacco, and what they did to increase their yields. Evan will also include stories from contemporary descendants about "eating off the land." Registration is required, $20 per person; Please call 914- 962-2368 ext 2.
