Final Week of 1,000 Cancer Stories Campaign!
We have one more week left of the campaign- but there's still enough time to get your stories submitted!!

The campaign deadline is almost here- so now what?
It's hard to believe that we have been collecting stories for a little over 2 months!
For me, the campaign ending means we're able to move onto the next phase of the fundraising planning. While most of you don't quite know what I have up my sleeve, I have still loved how willing you all have been to help with this plan!
We had a meeting yesterday with the venue I wanted to book to talk about the possibility of working together. I had been waiting for this meeting since August & I had no idea what to expect as my request was a big one. During the meeting, when I was explaining to him who I am aiming to book, he told me that he was excited solely based on my excitement. He had no idea who I was talking about & the genre of entertainment definitely wasn't something he was aiming to book, but he left that meeting feeling just as pumped as I am. It was such a good feeling knowing that I now have an amazing venue that has a lot of potential for this fundraiser!
But when I left that meeting, I realized- oh crap, we're almost at the time where I have to try and book this act! I have been planning this since July & at the beginning of the planning phases, this part seemed so far away that it didn't even feel real. And now that I'm here, I'm excited and worried & everything in between.
I already know that the chances of me booking this act are not a guarantee but I also know that I have a solid shot of getting in there for a meeting. That whole prospect is something I can barely even think about.
But as the campaign is nearing the end- it has surprised me how many people are sad. A lot of people have asked me- well, is that it for the stories? My response is a big no! This part of the planning process has been my favorite. Seeing everybody's willingness to share their stories, film videos and be a part of something bigger has been so inspiring. It has brought so many of us together in conversations that have been really important.
So for those who are sad to see our stories go- have no fear! We will be taking a break from asking everybody to mail stories in- although the PO box will still be available for anybody who wants to mail in. We are going to be thinking of new ways to incorporate the written stories & videos into our Relay mission. Not only that, but we'll be incorporating them at our actual Relay event in June somehow. So please keep sending them in & sharing to others who have a story to tell how they can do submit them. We're going to keep collecting through June (at least!)
Our stories are always so important- not just before the deadline. I truly have found so much importance on writing my stories, on reflecting and even finding some closure. And I know that a lot of people have felt the same.
So as I embark on the unknown of my planning, just know how thankful I am for everybody's willingness to share your stories. I know it's not easy and I know how special each story is. I truly appreciate the dedication, the support and the love I've been getting since 1,000 Stories was born! Here's to expanding the campaign & coming together even more as a cancer fighting community!
Remember- you can always email us your pictures & stories at RFLofYorktownEvents@gmail.com or mail them to us at 1,000 Stories Campaign, PO Box 598, Yorktown, NY 10598
