Hot Jobs Sector: Hospital Jobs Near Yorktown

YORKTOWN, NY — Over the past year or more, Educational and Health Services has been New York's hottest job sector. Education and Health Services is known as a "supersector." What does that mean? In this series, Patch is exploring what it means and and where the jobs actually are.

This week we look at one of the subsectors of that big, big category: Social Assistance. And in that subsector, we've found lots of jobs ranging from purchasing to public relations, advertised by companies and agencies around the lower Hudson Valley on indeed.com.

First, what's a supersector? It means that according to labor experts, who use something called the North American Industry Classification System, there are two sectors and 11 categories inside this one supersector.
There's the health care and social assistance sector, which consists of these subsectors:

• Hospitals
• Nursing and Residential Care Facilities
• Social Assistance

The educational services sector breaks into these subsectors:

• Elementary and Secondary Schools
• Junior Colleges
• Colleges, Universities, and Professional Schools
• Business Schools and Computer and Management Training
• Technical and Trade Schools
• Other Schools and Instruction
• Educational Support Services
