While Mahopac High School students must log at least 60 hours of community service in order to graduate, 39 graduating students this year logged more than 300 hours, doing everything from helping terminally ill patients to volunteering in preschools. These students were honored at a breakfast held in the High School min-theater on June 2nd.
“It’s important to recognize these students who have gone above and beyond for their community,” said Mahopac High School Principal Adam Pease as the awards were being handed out.
Shea Belsky put in 1,499 hours of volunteer work doing first aid and CPR for the National Ski Patrol at Hunter Mountain, in addition to other volunteer work. Alana Belkevich logged her hours working on her Girl Scout Gold Award and teaching children. “I love working with preschoolers,” she said. Ashlee Belkevich also worked on her Gold Award in addition to helping to raise $10,000 for a new gymnastics floor for Mahopac. “We were able to donate our old one,” she said.
