Jobless Rate Crept Up in Westchester

Unemployment rates have been rising slightly in Rockland, Putnam and Westchester counties.

None of the three made the state’s list of counties with the lowest unemployment rates in July, according to preliminary data released by the state Labor Department; whereas all three had been on that list in May.

Their unemployment rate in July:

• Putnam: 4.8 percent
• Rockland: 5.1 percent
• Westchester: 5.0 percent

Things are still better than last year. In July 2014, the unemployment rate for Orange-Rockland-Westchester and Dutchess-Putnam counties was 5.4 percent.

Here are the counties in New York State with the lowest unemployment rates as of July 2015:
