Keep An Eye On The Sky: Weekend Weather for Somers and Yorktown

The clouds have arrived.

And they will be creeping their way across the Hudson Valley in time for a traditionally busy weekend.

There are graduation parties and dance recitals, spring sports tournaments and plays. Patch calendars will show a plethora of scheduled activities. Campers have already reserved sites; hikers are hitting the trails. Several Relay for Life events are on tap for the weekend.

But we’re going to have to pay attention to the sky. The keyword here is “chance” because we could get a little wet at times.

We all need to be like the Scouts and just be prepared.

Here is the National Weather Service statewide forecast for northern Westchester County:

• Today-Cloudy. Showers likely late this morning...then a chance of showers this afternoon. Highs in the lower 70s. South winds around 5 mph. Chance of rain 70 percent.
• Tonight-Mostly cloudy. A slight chance of showers in the evening. Lows around 60. South winds around 5 mph in the evening...becoming light and variable. Chance of rain 20 percent.
• Saturday-Partly sunny with a slight chance of showers. A slight chance of thunderstorms in the afternoon. Highs in the lower 80s. Northwest winds around 5 mph...becoming west around 5 mph in the afternoon. Chance of rain 20 percent.
• Saturday Night-Cloudy. A chance of showers and thunderstorms in the evening...then showers likely after midnight. Lows in the lower 60s. Southeast winds around 5 mph. Chance of rain 60 percent.
• Sunday-Showers likely with scattered thunderstorms in the morning...then showers and scattered thunderstorms in the afternoon. Patchy fog in the morning. Some thunderstorms may produce gusty winds and heavy rainfall in the afternoon. Highs in the mid 70s. Southeast winds 5 to 10 mph. Chance of rain 80 percent.
• Sunday Night-Mostly cloudy. Showers and scattered thunderstorms in the evening...then a chance of showers after midnight. Patchy fog. Some thunderstorms may produce heavy rainfall in the evening. Lows in the lower 60s. Chance of rain 80 percent.
