Lakeland Education Foundation Keeping Fit 5K Run/Walk
More than 300 runners and walkers of all ages joined in the 3rd annual Lakeland Education Foundation 5k Run/Walk this past Sunday
More than 300 runners and walkers of all ages joined in the 3rd annual Lakeland Education Foundation 5k Run/Walk this past Sunday (April 19) to help raise $3,100 for educational grants throughout the district.
“One of the purposes of the Keeping Fit 5K is to promote wellness throughout the Lakeland School District Community,” said Patricia Viggiano, the District’s Director of Science and Wellness Committee member who helped organize the event. “The walk originated from the Wellness Committee working with the local Chamber of Commerce a few years ago to create a community wellness walk/run to benefit the schools,” she added. Stephanie Hudson chaired the event for the LEF.
Last year the LEF took over the race for our district. The proceeds are used for grants’ programs throughout the district.
“The race allows students, teachers, administrators, parents, coaches, support staff, and families to all come together for a good cause,” said Mrs. Viggiano. “There were a number of teams representing the schools and athletics in the district. The weather was amazing and the school spirit shown was even more amazing.”
