Leading Cancer Specialist to Speak on Ovarian Cancer Treatment

Free educational webinar for women living with ovarian cancer

Support Connection, Inc. announces a free educational webinar: “Advances in Treatment of Ovarian Cancer,” scheduled for Tues., Sept. 19, from 8-9 pm EST. The program is open to women nationwide who are living with ovarian cancer.

This program is presented by Support Connection as part of their annual “Tune In and Take Charge!” campaign to build awareness of ovarian cancer signs and symptoms, to encourage women to self-advocate for their own health, and to give women the tools they need to take action. It is being held in September in recognition of National Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month.

Topics will include: The latest on the development of drugs for treatment of advanced ovarian cancer; Other novel chemotherapeutic agents in development; Advances in immunotherapy; PARP inhibitors; The role of molecular profiling; Info from the Cancer Institute Survivorship Survey. There will also be a Q & A period.

Guest speaker: Dr. Thomas Herzog, MD is currently the Deputy Director of the Barrett Cancer Center and The University of Cincinnati Cancer Institute, and Vice-Chair for Quality and Safety for Obstetrics and Gynecology, University of Cincinnati College of Medicine. He has served as a Principal Investigator in a number of GOG (Gynecologic Oncology Group) trials with a special emphasis in ovarian and endometrial cancers, and has authored/co-authored over 270 peer-reviewed articles and lectures nationally and internationally.

Dr. Herzog has been on the leadership council of the Society of Gynecologic Oncology, the Foundation for Women’s Cancer, and the Board of Governors for the American College of Surgeons. He is a member of the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology, the Council for the International Gynecologic Cancer Society, and the Board of Directors of the Gynecologic Oncology Group Foundation.

ABOUT OVARIAN CANCER: Ovarian cancer ranks fifth as the cause of cancer death in women in the US, and is the leading cause of death from gynecologic cancers. It is estimated that in the United States this year, about 22,440 women will be diagnosed with ovarian cancer, and 14,080 will die from it. If ovarian cancer is found and treated before the cancer has spread outside the ovary, the 5-year survival rate is about 92%. However, only 15% of all ovarian cancers are found at this early stage.
