Relay for Life has always held a special place in the hearts of the Mahopac School District community, as residents turn out in droves for the annual event. This year, Mahopac High School 2012 alum Max Bachmeier took Relay for Life to Iona College, raising more than $31,000. “The event broke Iona’s fundraising record,” Max said.
“I knew I wanted to make a difference at Iona, and if anything had left a huge impact on me during high school, it was Relay For Life,” said Max, a sophomore at Iona this year.
Max joined with his classmates in kicking off the college’s inaugural Relay for Life, which was awarded Iona College’s Most Outstanding Program of the Year.

“Mahopac High School taught me that community service isn't just something you have to do to graduate, it's much more than that,” Max said. “It's about making a difference in not only yourself but the ones around you. Mahopac has opened my eyes to the impact just one person can have on countless other lives. Because if you can change just one person’s life, isn’t it worth it?”
“Mahopac is so very proud of Max, who represents its finest civic-minded, young adults,” said Mahopac School District Superintendent Tom Manko.
