Majority Of Voters Unimpressed With Trump's Performance 1 Month In: Poll
In a new Marist Poll, almost two-thirds said they were embarrassed by his conduct.

One month after his inauguration, a majority of American voters are not impressed with Donald Trump’s performance as president.
In fact, close to six in 10 said they were embarrassed by his conduct, according to a McClatchy-Marist Poll released Feb. 23.
The poll shows that 41 percent of voters said they approve of the job he is doing and 49 percent say they disapprove.

Democrats, 81 percent, African-American voters, 74 percent, and Latinos, 63 percent, said they are particularly displeased with how Trump is doing as president.
Pollsters said, to make matters worse for the president, 58 percent said his conduct makes them feel embarrassed while only 33 percent said the president’s actions make them feel proud.

“With President Trump’s first month in office behind him, his shaky standing with voters, overall, reflects the appointments and actions which have largely been directed at his base,” said Dr. Lee M. Miringoff, director of the Marist College Institute for Public Opinion.
“Elected without majority voter support, he has not reached out beyond those who backed him in November,” he said.
The McClatchy-Marist Poll said Trump’s support is mostly a carryover from the base appeal he had during the campaign.
Of those who supported Trump during the campaign, 88 percent of them approve of Trump’s job performance.
A majority of them report they are proud of Trump’s conduct as president.
Majorities of voters disapprove of how the new president is handling foreign policy — 56 percent — and how he is dealing with terrorism — 53 percent.
How he is handling the economy is somewhat more positive:
- 45 percent approve
- 43 percent disapprove
Voters who supported Trump during the election were most likely to think well of how Trump is dealing with the economy.
Image-wise, only 38 percent of Americans have a favorable opinion of the president, down from his December rating of 43 percent during the transition.
A majority — 54 percent — have an unfavorable opinion of Trump.
When asked about trustworthiness, a majority of voters — 55 percent — do not consider him to be honest and trustworthy.
Likewise, 54 percent do not think the president is a good leader for the nation.
Speaking of personal finances, Americans aren’t confident that the president has been truthful when it comes to his.
When asked about the potential conflict between being president and his personal finances, 53 percent of Americans think Trump has either done something illegal or something unethical.
Forty-one percent said he’s done nothing wrong.
The survey of 1,073 adults 18 or older was conducted from Feb. 15 through Feb. 19. The margin of error is 3 percent.
