Man Accused Of Violating Protection Order, Attempted Assault

Police said the man tried to injure the victim by punching, slapping and knocking them to the ground.

YORKTOWN, NY — A report of a possible domestic dispute led to a Peekskill man being accused of trying to punch a person from whom he was supposed to stay away. Yorktown police said Christopher B. Hammonds, 39, of Peekskill, was charged with third-degree attempted assault, a misdemeanor, and first-degree criminal contempt, a felony.

Shortly after 10 p.m. June 30, officers were sent to a Yorktown residence about a domestic dispute.

The investigation found Hammonds tried hurt the victim by punching them with a closed fist, as well as slapping and knocking them to the ground, police said.

According to authorities, Hammonds was in violation of a duly served order of protection.

He was arrested and taken to the Yorktown Police Department for processing.

After being arraigned, Hammonds was served a temporary order of protection and released.

He is due to appear in the Yorktown Justice Court Aug. 18.
