North Salem High School Student Tom Daros Honored as BOCES’ Student of Distinction

For his efforts and outstanding achievements in Putnam/Northern Westchester BOCES’ Tech Center Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning program, North Salem High School senior Tom Daros was honored at his school district’s Board of Education meeting on May 7.

A second year student in the HVAC program, Daros, who is also a member of the National Technical Honor Society, has been described by his teacher Doug Andreotti as “a hard worker” and “conscientious.”

“[Tom] has got great focus and really pays attention,” Andreotti said. “He’s serious about his work and has incredible maturity for his age. He always sets a great example.”

It is no wonder that Daros excels in the HVAC program; it’s in his blood. His family owns a fuel oil company, which has also helped to prepare Daros with the skills necessary to succeed in the business.

“The program at The Tech Center really helped me learn the air-conditioning side of HVAC,” said Daros, who plans to study HVAC Design at the Pennsylvania College of Technology in the fall. “I’m looking forward to furthering my education in this field and making new friends through team work.”

Accompanying Daros to the award ceremony were BOCES administrators, his parents Marisa and Ted, and his sister Victoria.

“We’re very proud of him,” Ted Daros said of his son. “We know he’s a good kid and I guess that shows through because his school and his teachers also see that in him. I’m glad he’s learning the skills and technical background he needs to be part of our business. We could use a good worker.”
