NY's Lowest Jobless Rates: Westchester County Still on the List

YORKTOWN, NY — The New York State Department of Labor has released preliminary local area unemployment rates for March 2017. Again, Westchester County is on the state's list of counties with the lowest jobless rates. New York City’s rate is at an all-time low based on records going back to 1976.

New York City’s rate declined from 4.3 to 4.0 percent in March 2017.

Overall, New York State was in March at its lowest unemployment rate since February 2007. Statewide, the unemployment rate decreased a tiny bit, from 4.4 to 4.3 percent in March 2017, according to preliminary figures.

“New York State’s economy continued to show strength," said Bohdan M. Wynnyk, Deputy Director of the New York State Department of Labor’s Division of Research and Statistics. "Additionally, the number of unemployed New Yorkers fell by more than 14,000."

  • Albany County (3.8%)
  • Tompkins County (3.8%)
  • Putnam County (3.9%)
  • Saratoga County (3.9%)
  • Columbia County (4.0%)
  • Dutchess County (4.0%)
  • Rockland County (4.0%)
  • Westchester (4.1%)
  • Orange (4.2%)
  • Ulster (4.4%)

Orange, Ulster and Westchester counties just missed the cutoff.
