Man Honored With Proclamation; Nov. 30 Is Rick Cerrone Day in Westchester

The former New York Yankees executive who is originally from Yorktown was surprised with a Proclamation from Westchester County declaring that Nov. 30 is Rick Cerrone Day in Westchester.

Rick Cerrone has been behind the scenes working in the public relations and communications field, not getting much recognition, but Tuesday night was his day to be recognized for the work he does for the community. 

Surprised by friends and family he was given a proclamation from Westchester County declaring Nov. 30 Rick Cerrone Day in Westchester County. 

"He is generous, he is really a good PR man, he's done a lot for us, things are that aren't tangible, hope, validation, legitimacy, energy, branding, support and focus," said Yorktown Teen Center board of directors president Helena Rodriguez, who presented him with the Proclamation on behalf of the county.

Cerrone was recently the . He was instrumental in the , which Rodriguez said they wouldn't have done without his help. 

"I don't think he gets enough recognition, but it's part of his business," she said. "People in the PR business are in the back and they manage things. He could probably use a little more recognition."

Cerrone said he doesn't do anything for a reward or an award, so he was surprised to receive the honor.  

"I've spent my career supporting the performance and success of other people, so I haven't been in a role where I get a lot of rewards," he said. 

Cerrone's career included being editor and publisher of a national baseball magazine, major league baseball executive and talk show host. He inspires people through his public speaking where he references professional sports stories and personal anecdotes.

Cerrone has four keys to New York City, presented by former mayor Rudy Giuliani, as well as championship rings from when the New York Yankees won the World Series.
