DSD author's note: I have known Lakeland baseball coaches Dennis and Mike Robinson since the late '90s, when I first started covering the Hornets for the old Peekskill-Cortlandt Herald.
They treated me like family since Day 1, something I will always be grateful for. Thus, if the below is true (attempts to contact the Robinson's last night were unsuccessful), it makes for a very sad day:

"Lakeland Baseball Coaches Dennis and Mike Robinson were essentially asked to leave their post after 40-something years of significant service to the green and gold," Northern Westchester Examiner Sports Editor Ray Gallagher wrote.
The story, titled "An Era Apparently Over at Lakeland," can be read in its entirety on the paper's website here. Near the end of the story Gallagher says he feels that the school district's decision is "a done deal, whether folks line up in outrage or not."
In response, clerk Kathy DeMaio made the following statement to Patch on behalf of Superintendent of Schools George Stone:
"All coaching positions, including baseball, are one season appointments. Coaching positions are sent to the Board of Education at least one season prior to the one being approved. The positions for the spring 2013 will be posted in the fall. At that time we review the applicants and select the coaches. The Board of Education will then act on that list at a regular board meeting, also in the fall."

Melissa Gonzalez (Lakeland '07) will be playing in the 2012 London Olympics on the USA Field Hockey Team. Lee Bodimeade, head coach of the U.S. Women’s Field Hockey Team, made the announcement of the 16-player roster for the 2012 Olympic Games.
The U.S. has been drawn into a challenging pool made up of No. 2 Argentina, No. 3 Germany, No. 6 New Zealand, No. 7 Australia and No. 12 South Africa. The U.S. will open Pool B play at the Olympic Games with a face-off against Germany on Sunday, July 29.
The U.S. will begin their final preparation for the London Games on Monday, June 18, with the start of a four game test series against Argentina in Virginia. The 16-women nominated to the Olympic Team plus two replacement athletes will compete on the tour that stops at the University of Virginia, Old Dominion University and the National Training Center.
