UPDATE: Police Identify Drivers in Wrong-Way Taconic Crash

The SUV entered the northbound lanes at Peekskill Hollow Road and went south. A Stormville man is dead.

The New York State Police have released the names of the drivers in the fatal motorcycle / vehicle crash that occurred on the Taconic State Parkway in Carmel at about 3:35 am this morning, Aug. 30.

A 2006 Subaru operated by 40-year-old Melida Espinal of Danbury, Connecticut, entered the northbound lanes of the Taconic, in a southerly direction at Peekskill Hollow Road approximately 8/10 of a mile before crashing head-on with a 2007 Suzuki motorcycle which was traveling northbound, police said.

The motorcycle operator, Jeffrey Divine, 22, of Stormville, NY, died at the scene. The driver of the Subaru, as well as two passengers, were treated for minor injuries. The cause of the collision remains under investigation.

An SUV driving south in the northbound lanes of the Taconic Parkway collided with a motorcyclist early Sunday morning, according to news reports.

The cyclist then hit a wall near the Bryant Pond Road intersection.

That side of the road was closed for hours while police investigated.

According to The Journal News, authorities said there was some question about who was driving the mini-van and none of the people riding in it spoke much English.

It’s the third fatal crash on the Taconic this month. A 2-year-old and a mother and daughter died Aug. 15 when the driver of an SUV lost control and hurtled into the southbound lanes near FDR State Park. A Brewster woman, Stacey L. Jackson, died the same day in LaGrangeville in a single-car crash.

Police have not released the identity of the motorcyclist or the other drivers.
