This is Sarah's Story

Join us during our 1,000 Stories Campaign as we share our stories of how cancer has effected our lives. Learn more about the campaign too!

I met Sarah back in high school.

She's a few years younger than me but we both danced in our schools dance company & knew each other through some mutual friends. Flash forward a few years to when Sarah became our American Cancer Society staff partner for our Relay for Life event!

At that point, it was my first year being a co-chair & I worked really closely with her; talking probably every day during the Relay season. When you talk to somebody every day you learn a lot! Sarah was so easy to work with and always (and still is!) a ray of sunshine.

She's the one who taught me a lot about where the funds from Relay for Life go, what they do & the services they provide for cancer patients. I learned a ton from her! Sarah was the one who encouraged me to first share my story during our Luminaria ceremony that year at Relay. I always struggled with public speaking & sharing my story. But with her backing me, I got up on stage & shared my story (with lots of crying in between)

But when I think about it, without her those few years ago, who knows if this campaign would have started? It was then I learned how important it is to even share our stories. Our experiences connect us and bring us together. That's the core of this campaign- to bring us back to our roots & to each other!

I hope you enjoy learning a little more about Sarah & connecting with her story with cancer!
