Season in Review: Lakeland/Panas Boys Lacrosse
Rebels' All-Americans ready for next step at the Division I level.

No. 5 Lakeland/Panas was able to earn an 11-9 record with a young team against a tough schedule. The Rebels ended the season playing in a highly contested Section 1 Class A title game, which it lost to No. 2 Mahopac 7-5.
“We had some good wins throughout the whole season including our triple-overtime 13-12 win in the semis against Suffern but came up a little short of our goal (a sectional championship), but that happens, it’s a part of life,” Lakeland/Panas senior attackman Conor Prunty said.
Life has been good to Prunty and his teammate, senior attackman Robert Caffrey, who were both named All-American this year. For Prunty, it was the second year in a row of earning the prestigious honor.

Each Rebel All-American will be playing at the next level in college, Prunty at Siena and Caffrey at Providence.
“This year, I didn’t have statistically as good a year,” Prunty said. “I was forced to take a different role on the team, be more of a passer and try to get the younger guys involved. They did a great job. I really have to thank my teammates and my coaches again for helping me get that honor I otherwise wouldn’t have gotten without their help.”

One of those teammates is Caffrey.
“He really is one of the best scorers, best finishers I have ever seen play the game,” Prunty said. “You throw him the ball and he will shoot from anywhere and it will go in.”
Earning All-Section honors was junior midfielder Chris Monteferante, who Prunty said has been the heart and soul of the team the last two years.
“He’s probably physically dominant over anybody else in the section,” Prunty said. “He’s just loves to work hard, he wants to win. You can’t coach heart and he has all that.”
Two other key players that the Rebels will be relying on next year are junior midfielder and All-Section honorable mention selection Tony Laguerre, who scored the game-winner against Suffern, and freshman goalie Mike Zingaro.
Prunty said the sky is the limit for the both of them, which bodes well for the Rebels come next spring.
