Season in Review: Yorktown Girls Lacrosse
Last year's loss to Fox Lane motivates this year's squad to championship heights.

Last year Yorktown (17-4) lost at Fox Lane in the Section 1 Class B championship game, something that was on the minds of the Huskers for basically the next 365 days after the setback.
“That loss was definitely a tremendous amount of motivation,” Yorktown All-American senior midfielder Lindsay Scott said. “Every day in practice if we dropped a ball or did something else wrong, we would say to ourselves, we have to fix that, we can’t do that in a big game, we can’t do that if we have to play Fox Lane. We just always had that in the back of our mind.”
Having that loss as motivation propelled the Huskers to avenge that setback, beating visiting Fox Lane in this year’s Class B title game 16-15, on the way to a berth in the Class B state semifinals.

The Huskers athletes had their efforts recognized through the postseason honors they received.
“It made us feel good because we worked so hard and everyone put in so much time into this,” Lindsay Scott said. “We just worked the hardest we ever worked and everyone deserved it.”
The Huskers worked as hard as they did because they were led by a senior class that wanted to graduate as sectional champions.
“We all wanted it really badly,” Lindsay Scott said. “We had a big senior class. We were all dedicated and hard working. We all had the work ethic to get where we wanted to be.”
Bringing it all together for the Huskers was one of the best coaches in the business, Ellen Mager.
“She just knows how to push people,” Lindsay Scott said. “She knows when they are not doing well, she knows how to push them to get the most out of their abilities.”
