Softball vs. Mother Nature

"Mud season." Not much else to say, but thanks to the artificial turf at Navajo Fields we were able to host a successful men’s 50 plus open scrimmage on Saturday with 23 players battling the chilly weather to come out and play.

Once again, The Comeback Kids and a number of players from Fahgettaboutit proved their mettle on the field, joined by players from the Dream Team and several free agents.

Dave Rocco reported an exciting game: “One week after experiencing their first ever loss, the Comeback Kids, despite not having their ace on the mound, returned to their winning ways with a well-earned victory.  The game saw numerous lead changes throughout with great defense displayed by both teams, highlighted by several key double-plays that halted potential scoring threats.  With the combined team of Fahgettaboutit, Dream Team and new free agents tying up the score in the top of the 7th inning at 4 - 4, the Comeback Kids, with two outs and fighting both the sudden rain storm and field use time restrictions, squeezed in a run in the bottom of the 7th to continue their legacy.”

Tom Cavalieri of YSA mentioned that everyone had a lot of fun and that another new team will be developed from the free agents.

Unfortunately, the coed 20 plus scrimmage on Sunday had to be postponed due to the rain.

Next Weekend — April 5 and 6

Because of weather and the resulting field conditions, the start of the spring season has been delayed, which is great news for those of you who couldn’t make it to the March scrimmages!

We are holding additional scrimmages next weekend:
Men’s 50 Plus: Saturday, April 5 at 10 AM
Coed 20 Plus: Sunday, April 5 at 10 AM

Come on out and play. Spring really is coming and summer’s not far behind!
