Spotlight Arts Announces the Cast of their Fall Production, "Play On!"

Play On! will be presented on October 15, 16 and 17 at 7:30 with a special matinee on October 17 at 2pm at Bluestone Farm in Brewster.

Spotlight Arts proudly announces its two casts for their Fall Mainstage production of Play On! Rick Abbott’s 1980 comedy about the offstage and onstage antics of a community theater group.

Play On! cast members include: Sarah Borsari, Taylor Byrne, Megan Campbell, Jacqueline Carey, Maudie Carey, Jennifer DeSantis, Carly Guida, Cecilia Guida, Ryan Hecht, Grace Lara, Joe Likens, Max Likens, Macie Marinich, Martina Rossi, Alanna Walsh of Brewster; Sarah Daleo, Andrew DiFabbio and Erin Vaughan of Patterson; Sasha Rubeo of Carmel; and Emma Duffy of New Fairfield, CT.

Some of the actors are actually playing two roles in this hysterical show - one in Play On! and one in the “internal play” Murder Most Foul. Taylor Byrne explains, “It’s a nice challenge to portray not only one character but two.”

The audience will get an inside look at the trials of putting on a show. Since so many things have been changed during rehearsals, the characters forget their lines, entrances are late and early, and technical issues abound. All this makes for a riotously funny show and a great time at rehearsal. Andrew DiFabbio chuckles, “There isn’t a second when nobody is laughing.” Others students are in agreement. “The biggest challenge I face is attempting to hold back my own laughter,” explains Ryan Hecht, “This is by far the funniest show I’ve been in.”

In this educational mainstage program, Spotlight Arts students learn not only about stage directions, character development and expression but they also discover skills like time management, communication, confidence, self-esteem and teamwork. “These students are working hard during rehearsal and independently at home,” clarifies director Margaret Carey, “but I don’t think they see it as work. They laugh, smile and relish acting like an actor.”
