The Weekly Forecast From Mohegan Lake

A round up of the most important Mohegan Lake related issues to keep tabs on this week.

Monday, 4/21, 7:30pm at Town Hall:   After nearly 4 years of "working sessions" between the town and Faith Bible church, the Yorktown planning board [PB] opened the planning hearing to public comments in May of 2013.  There was an unadvertised "working session" between the applicant and PB in December of 2013.  After a public PB hearing--or two--in 2014, the board felt that had all the facts and were ready to vote up or down; they closed the public hearing.  To be safe, the PB left a 10 day written comment period for final comments from the public and applicant.  Cut to the chase: Faith Bible is on the Monday PB agenda and the applicant's attorney is the contact.  Does the PB and their attorney need the applicant's help making up their mind?  Perhaps the board heeded my plea? (who are we kidding). If the board had enough information to close the hearing in anticipation of a vote, why would they need a working session?  The public can't comment if any new information is presented by the applicant.  Highly unusual.  I hope you can join me to find out just exactly what is going on tomorrow night, if not, I'll report back to you.

Forecast: 90% chance of shenanigans with logic and reasoning taking a beating.

Wednesday, 4/23, 5:30pm at Peter Pratt's:

The Yorktown Democratic Committee hosts its annual fundraiser with keynote speaker, Congresswoman Nita M. Lowey.

Forecast: 100% chance of good food, drink and company--all for a good cause.

Saturday, 4/26 (and every other day of the year--ideally), Yorktown:

The Battle of Yorktown takes place all over town.  That's the annual rite of spring where we all grab a big orange bag and fill it with trash we pick up along our roads, coordinating pick up spots with our individual communities and the town.

Forecast:  95% chance of all of the existing trash around Yorktown being banished to the land of wind and dust.

Sunday, 4/27  at 11am, MHPOA Beach:

The Mohegan Highlands Property Owners Association has their annual beach clean up and projects day.  I do not have the schedules for the other 6 homeowners associations/park districts around Mohegan Lake; please consult your community leaders for details.

Forecast: 100% chance of work being done and the lake being enjoyed.
