As part of the national Day of Service to commemorate the men and women who stepped in to help after the terrorist attacks in New York City and Washington, D.C., on Sept. 11, 2001, Westchester County Executive Robert Astorino, Volunteer New York! and Robison have worked together to plan this year’s local Day of Service and Remembrance.

Watch a clip from this week’s pressconference where 4 volunteers stepped forward to tell their story and encourage more volunteers to take action and register to serve.

Last year, more than 1,000 volunteers showed up to lend a hand to nonprofit and community-centered organizations in the Westchester area.

This year, the organization hopes that more volunteers will step forward to give blood, join the bone marrow donor registry, learn Hands-Only CPR, or consider becoming an organ donor – which are just some of the ways that volunteers save lives everyday.

Volunteers can register for free by going to www.volunteernewyork.org/service.

We encourage all volunteers to also participate in our drives, which include donating blood, donating healthy food, and donating books for young readers. The New York Blood Center is collecting blood at the Westchester County Center on September 11th and food and books can be dropped off there as well.
