The beautiful field at Putnam Valley High School provided the perfect setting for softball on a spectacular spring morning. In the only game scheduled for the weekend, The Hit Squad jumped out to a 1 run lead in the top of the first, but The Grizzly Bats were showing their teeth in this one. The Grizzlies came back with 3 in the second and never looked back, holding their lead with great plays from their fielders, especially on third base. Both teams played well, but it was a HR ball day for The Grizzlies with 5 home runs in this game! The Hit Squad fell in this one 14 to 1.
An Exciting Weekend on Tap!
Looks like the season might be shaping up as a battle between the undefeated Naturals and the determined Grizzly Bats who meet next Sunday in a contest at 10:30 at Navajo Fields. The 9 AM game at Navajo features the Hit Squad vs. The Comeback Kids, who are fighting hard to regain last year’s supremacy in the league. Also at 10:30 The Dream Team will play The Outsiders North in a contest of teams who need to improve their records heading into mid-season.
A Baseball Great Visits Yorktown
The Yorktown Sports Complex was busy over Memorial Day weekend, with beautiful weather, the Yorktown Athletic Club’s Cooperstown or Bust baseball tournament and a special visit from retired Brooklyn Dodgers pitcher Ralph Branca who was on hand to sign autographs.
Sonic Sports was there — and thanks to Tom Cavalieri, we have some great shots of the activities and Mr. Branca. A Westchester native, Ralph Branca played for the Brooklyn Dodgers from 1944 to 1956 and made 3 trips to the All Star Game. Fans young and old were delighted to meet Mr. Branca who delighted the crowd by signing autographs and chatting with passers-by.
