Boys Lax
Yorktown
No. 1 Yorktown defeated visiting No. 5 Rye 14-7 on Thursday in the Section 1 Class B semifinals. The Huskers were led by Nick Mariano (5G, 1A), Conor Gately (2G, 7A) and Brian Quigley (3G) according to MSG Varsity.
The Huskers will now play No. 2 John Jay at 8 p.m. Wednesday at White Plains High School for the Class B title.
Lakeland/Panas
MSG Varsity also reported that No. 1 Lakeland/Panas also played Thursday in the Class A semifinal, falling to visiting No. 4 Mahopac 8-6. Ryan Bonifati led the Rebels with two goals and an assist.
Girls Lax
Molly Fitzpatrick led the Rebels (16-1-2) with three goals and three assists while Emma Bozek recorded three goals and one assist in No. 1 Lakeland/Panas' 10-9 loss to No. 2 North Rockland (18-0-1) on Thursday in the Section 1 Class A championship game at Fox Lane High School according to Rob DiAntonio's story on MSG Varsity.
The championship was the first in North Rockland history while the loss ended a string of five straight titles for the Rebels.
Baseball
Host No. 10 Lakeland, which belted out 16 hits, made an epic comeback as it overcame a 7-5 deficit in its last at-bat with two outs to defeat No. 23 Brewster 8-7 in a Class A outbracket game on Wednesday according to DiAntonio's story on MSG Varsity.
Nick Mariani (two RBI), Matt Wright (3 for 4, two RBI), Corey Smith (3 for 4, RBI) and Anthony Fava (3 for 4, RBI) all helped the Hornets in their tremendous victory, which lands them in today's opening-round affair at No. 7 Somers at 3 p.m.
The Hornets will be looking to avenge last year's playoff loss to the Tuskers, when Somers, as a No. 16 seed, upset the then top-seeded Hornets in the first round 5-4.
Softball
Host No. 13 Lakeland defeated No. 20 Somers 6-2 on Thursday in a Class A outbracket game according to Rob Cristino's post on the LoHud Softball Blog.
Alexandra Wright went 3 for 4 with two doubles and two RBI for the Hornets. Teammates Felizia Costanzo went 2 for 2 with two runs scored and an RBI while Shannon Scavelli pitched a five-hitter with two walks and nine strikeouts.
The Hornets will travel to play No. 4 Harrison today at 4:30 p.m. in an opening-round game.
