Yonkers Man Accused of Choking Girlfriend
A temporary order of protection was issued on behalf of the victim.

YORKTOWN, NY — A Yonkers man was arrested in Yorktown for choking his girlfriend.
Police said Jason A. Smith, 32, of Napperhan Avenue, was charged with criminal obstruction of breathing or blood circulation and fourth-degree criminal mischief, both misdemeanors.
On Dec. 19, around 5:52 p.m., the Yorktown Police Department received a 911 hang-up call. Officers were dispatched to investigate why the caller had hung up on the police.

When they got to the location, police found that Smith choked his girlfriend preventing her from breathing and took her cellphone away several time, preventing her from calling police for help, which is a violation of the criminal mischief statute.
Smith was arrested and taken to police headquarters.

He was processed and arraigned in Yorktown Court, and a temporary order of protection was issued on behalf of the victim.
Smith was sent to the Westchester County Department of Corrections in lieu of $3,500 bail.
He is due to return to court Jan. 5.
