Yorktown Native Samantha Russo Earns NSCAA All-Mid-Atlantic Honors
Samantha Russo, a member of The University of Scranton women's soccer team, was named first-team all-Mid-Atlantic region by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA).
Yorktown Heights native Samantha Russo of The University of Scranton women's soccer team was named first-team all-Mid-Atlantic region by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) last week.
It is the second straight year that Russo has been honored by the organization. She is one of three members of The University of Scranton women's soccer team who received the honor.
Russo, a sophomore at the college, earned first-team honors while junior defender Amanda Kresge and junior midfielder Sarah Gibbons landed a spot on the second team.

This past year, Russo led the Royals in assists (5) and total points (21) and tied for the team-lead in goals and match-winning goals (3). For her efforts, she was voted first-team all-Landmark Conference for the second consecutive year in a ballot conducted among the league’s head coaches.
In two seasons, Russo is already 20th on the Royals’ all-time scoring list with 49 total points (17 goals, 15 assists). She has also recorded eight match-winning goals in her career. This past fall, the Royals posted a 13-4-3 record under fourth-year head coach Colleen Murphy. Scranton also won its second straight and third Landmark Conference championship in five years and advanced to the NCAA Division III tournament for the 13th time in the program’s 29-year history.
