Yorktown Police Find Body Of Elderly Man In Woods

The man was said by friends to have missed several lunch gatherings, police said.

YORKTOWN, NY — The body of an elderly man was found in the woods in the Crompond area on Friday.

The Yorktown Police Department said it was called around 2 p.m. Friday to the area which was near the Yorktown-Cortlandt border to check on the welfare of an elderly person said by friends to have missed several lunch gatherings.

Officers checked the area and found the remains of a man believed to be from the area and has been known to be living “off the grid,” police said.

As is routine with unattended deaths, the Westchester County Medical Examiner’s Office was notified and responded to the scene.

At around 4:30 p.m., the man’s body was removed and taken to the medical examiner’s office in Valhalla for further investigation.

Police said the cause and date of the man’s death are uncertain at this time. However, officials said nothing overly suspicious was noted, and as of now, foul play is not suspected.

The investigation remains open. The name of the man is not being released pending the results of the medical examination and notification of next of kin.
