Yorktown Police List Non-Passable Streets As Of Wednesday

Police said downed wires have to have the electricity shut off by a utility company before highway crews can clear the street.

YORKTOWN, NY — Yorktown police sent out information early Thursday morning about the state of road closures in the town. The automated message said the town highway department reopened 50 roads in the last 24 hours.

Any roads that remain closed are because of downed utility wires and trees. Downed wires require a utility crew from either Con Edison or NYSEG to cut power in order for town crews to be able to safely clear the roads.

The following roadways are not passable or have restricted use as of 5:30 p.m. Wednesday:

  • East Main Street @ Sunnyside St. — Closed
  • White Hill Road @ Mohansic Ave — Closed
  • Lexington Ave @ Crawford Road — Closed
  • Hallocks Mill Road — Closed to through traffic
  • Moreland St. @ Route 132 — Closed
  • Old Crompond Road in the area of Field & Catherine St--Closed
  • Route 118 between Croton Heights and Route 129/118 Closed to through traffic
  • Underhill Ave @ Heights Dr. — One Lane Available
  • Baptist Church Road (area of 1565 Baptist Church) — Closed

Town police said to remember to treat all downed wires as energized. Electric current can travel for miles and energize fixed objects. All intersections with inoperable traffic signals must be considered a four-way stop intersection.
