Yorktown Residents Question School's Request For Heliport

Representatives from the school said the landing pad would be used only for emergencies and family visits.

YORKTOWN, NY — Whether or not a private, for-profit school for people with autism needs a permanent landing pad for helicopter is a question being considered by the Yorktown planning board. Representatives from the Shrub Oak International School said the “helistop” would only be used for emergencies and family visitations about one to three times a month.

HeliExperts International’s Raymond A. Syms said helicopters of the size that would use the pad keep noise to a minimum in residential zones, tapinto.net said.

An explanation of heliport terms written by HeliExperts said a helistop is defined by the Federal Aviation Administration as a heliport with no fueling or support facilities.
