Yorktown Schools Athletic Director to Retire
Longtime Athletic Director at Yorktown Central School District Will Retire at end of School Year

Yorktown, NY -- The Yorktown Central School District announces that Athletic Director Fio Nardone, will retire after the end of the school year.
This year Mr. Nardone was given the Don DeMatteo Service Award by the Section One Football Coaches Association. In 2015, he was named the Section One Athletic Director of the Year, by the New York State Athletic Administrators Association.
He has been the Athletic Director at Yorktown Central School District for the past 16 years.

“Mr. Nardone seems to be everywhere from Monday through Sunday to support our teams. He has immense dedication and commitment to our athletic program, our students, coaches and to the district. It is he who sets the examples of perseverance and commitment that are followed by our coaches and student athletes, many of whom are scholar-athletes. He will be missed, there is no doubt, and his influence will have a lasting effect in our district and on our program,” said Superintendent of Schools Dr. Ralph Napolitano.
During his tenure at Yorktown Mr. Nardone is credited with directing the enhancement of the Yorktown athletic facilities, and coordinating the donation of use of these sites for many Section One events.

He oversaw the construction of new turf and softball fields and the remodeling and renovating of the Fitness Centers at both the high school and middle school buildings. He played an integral part in the renovation of the swimming pool, as well as the complete remodeling of the locker rooms in both the high school and middle school. Most recently, Mr. Nardone was able to attain a $10,000 grant to fund a trophy showcase which will be ready for display in the spring.
And at Yorktown schools he is also known for encouraging student athletes to make contributions that help their community and to stay focused on their academic studies.
“I have been fortunate to have been in Yorktown with its focus on the whole child, which includes a strong emphasis on sports, athletics, physical fitness, wellness and teamwork. Sports is really about the students and how sports can enhance their educational experience. It has been my privilege to work with such a talented administrative team, coaching staff and such talented student athletes,” Mr. Nardone said.
In addition to being Director of Athletics and Physical Education at Yorktown Central School District, Nardone is a longtime member of the Section One Baseball Umpires Association and former president of Westchester County Basketball Association. As well, he is a member of the Section One Basketball Committee, Section One Baseball Committee, the Section One Ski Committee, and more.
“He will be a hard act to follow,” Dr. Napolitano added.
