Governor Rachel Hunt, who toured Earth to Sky Park and shopped at downtown staples Something Special Gift Shop and Hearth Glass and Gallery while spotlighting recovery from Hurricane Helene. Her visit promoted Western North Carolina tourism and encouraged families nationwide to plan trips that support Burnsville’s small businesses and mountain communities. 
• Two years after Helene, North Carolina rolls out solar 'beehives' for disaster backup (thecooldown.com) — Burnsville is among North Carolina communities adding solar-powered microgrids and mobile “beehive” backup units to keep power, refrigeration, and communications running during future disasters. The statewide project, funded by the Department of Environmental Quality and nonprofits, aims to protect residents from Helene-style outages and make critical services more resilient across western North Carolina.
