UNC Health begins construction of West Cary medical campus (ncconstructionnews.com) — West Cary residents can look forward to a major new UNC Health medical campus now under construction, bringing outpatient cancer care, heart and vascular services, OB-GYN, orthopaedics, and more by 2028. A 152-bed acute-care hospital is planned to follow by 2032, ultimately employing about 1,000 people and expanding specialty care options close to home for Cary and nearby communities.
   

2. 'He chose profit over human life:' Raleigh dealer sentenced to 27 years for fatal fentanyl overdose (wral.com) — A federal judge has sentenced a Raleigh drug dealer to 27 years after investigators tied him to multiple fatal overdoses, including one involving a man in Cary. The case, investigated jointly by Cary and Raleigh police with federal agents, highlights ongoing efforts to disrupt fentanyl and other hard drugs moving through Wake County neighborhoods.
   

3. $84 million Cary railroad project could force businesses to relocate (wral.com) — Cary drivers and business owners should watch a proposed $84 million project that would take Northeast Maynard Road under the railroad near East Chatham Street, aiming to improve safety and traffic but potentially forcing nearby businesses to relocate. NCDOT is still refining designs, with property acquisition expected in 2027, construction in 2030, and public comments open through October 27.
   

4. Dampf Good BBQ will not open new restaurant in Durham after community backlash (wral.com) — A Cary-based barbecue food truck, Dampf Good BBQ, has decided not to open its planned brick-and-mortar restaurant in downtown Durham after online backlash to the owner's past social media posts. The Michelin-recommended business will continue operating from its food truck in Cary, where it has served Texas-style barbecue since 2021.
