• Samford men continue championship reign, Western Carolina women add to Catamounts history (soconsports.com) — Cullowhee played host to the Southern Conference outdoor track championships, where Western Carolina’s women’s team captured its first league title since 2018, led by standout sprinter Cymoria Thomas. While Samford’s men extended their championship streak, Catamount athletes like Thomas, Gaby Reeve, and Jasmine Greene delivered big performances that added fresh hardware and school history on their home track.

• Western NC man threatened Sen. Thom Tillis, sentenced to probation (citizen-times.com) — A Cullowhee resident has been sentenced to three years of probation after pleading guilty to making violent threats in a phone message to U.S. Sen. Thom Tillis. The case, handled in federal court in Asheville, stemmed from a 2025 call in which the man used explicit language and threatened harm, following Tillis’ controversial stances that drew criticism from parts of his own party.
