🌱 Arrest Made In String Of Robberies Near Duke + RTP Bio Launch

The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Durham.

(Patch)

Hello National Proposal Day Durham!

First, today's weather:

Partly sunny and cooler. High: 62 Low: 40.

Here are the top five stories today in Durham:

  1. Durham Police have arrested one man in connection to the string of robberies and home invasions near Duke University's campus. Jaquan Marquise Smith was arrested on March 18 and is charged with four instances. The break-ins happened on McQueen Drive and Campus Walk Avenue, and all victims were forced into their apartments at gunpoint where the suspect took money, jewelry, phones, and more. (abc11)
  2. Durham and Wake Tech are working together to launch RTP Bio, a workforce development collaboration that will unite the schools' bio talent pipelines. The goal is to better address employment needs in life science fields and attract more students. The RTP Bio initiative aligns with NCBiotech's ongoing Bio Jobs Hub program to bring more people into North Carolina's life sciences workforce. (WRAL TechWire)
  3. A motorcyclist died from injuries in a crash along Highway 70 in Durham. The motorcyclist was travelling east when a driver in a BMW attempted to turn onto Highway 70 West from Angier Avenue and the two collided. Authorities are still investigating what caused the crash and there is no word on possible charges. (WRAL)
  4. The already competitive Triangle housing market is facing more economic pressures that could make it even more strained. The record inflation and gas price increase of 21% nationwide are partnering to reduce the amount of money in homebuyers pockets. The average home sale price hit a record in February across the U.S. at $345,000, and interest rates are set to increase. (abc11)
