Here are the top five stories in Durham today:
- Durham police recruiters are heading to Charlotte and Raleigh to try and recruit more officers as vacancies rise to 111. Wednesday, recruiters were at the Reliant Law Enforcement Career Fair in Charlotte, and today they're headed to the "Recruit Military" Career Fair at Carter-Finley Stadium in Raleigh. (CBS17)
- The State Bureau of Investigation is looking into the death of a man at a Circle K gas station on Wednesday morning. According to Durham Police Chief Patrice Andrews, the man who was shot was found violently assaulting the gas station clerk after officers arrived to an attempted suicide call. They were told that a man in the store was cutting himself, when they arrived they found the suspect assaulting the clerk with a sharp object or weapon and officers shot the suspect. (WNCT9)
- Durham Police are trying to locate missing person ReyWarren Hardi who has not been in contact with his family since December. HArdi is 35, 5-foot-8 and weighs approximately 220 pounds. Anyone with information regarding his whereabouts is asked to call Cpl. Novotny, the Durham Police Department's main desk, or 911. (Durham Police Department Facebook)
- City Manager Wanda Page has named two new leaders in local government. John Allore will be the new Budget & Management Services Director, and Sharon Williams will be the new Equity & Inclusion Director. (City of Durham Instagram)
- On Tuesday, a three-judge panel made the decision that the redistricting maps drawn by the Republican-controlled General Assembly will be allowed to stand. This decision comes from the Superior Court of Wake County and is likely to face an appeal. With the current decision in place, candidate filing will resume at 8:00 am on Thursday, February 24.
