Happy Easter Durham!

First, today's weather:

Mostly sunny and pleasant. High: 73 Low: 44.

Here are the top four stories today in Durham:

  1. One person was injured during a robbery off Durham-Chapel Hill Boulevard early on Saturday morning. The victim sustained a gunshot injury and was transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Police have not said which business, if any, was involved in the robbery and have not provided any information regarding suspects. (WRAL)
  2. Following Friday's deadly shooting at the Cadence RTP apartment complex, residents are raising safety concerns. The area is home to many college students and under the previous name, Campus Crossings there was a variety of violent crimes. The management team says that there are surveillance cameras and "courtesy officers" on the property 24 hours a day, and they plan to install gated entry and require non-residents be escorted by residents while on the property. (WRAL)
  3. Chris Rock had his first of two performances set for this weekend at the Durham Performing Arts Center. The performance is sold out after ticket prices soared following the incident at the Oscars. Raleigh comedian Andy Forrester says that the incident is a reminder that comedians and audiences must be more aware. (Spectrum News 1)
  4. The 2019 Trail Implementation Program is moving forward. The program is an extension of the 2011 Trails and Greenways Master Plan to evaluate which trail corridors should be considered for public engagement, funding requests, and construction on the next funding cycle. Today in Durham:

From my notebook:

  • It's Easter, and as much as I would love to feature a church that's right for you (if you celebrate the holiday), but with so many in the area I thought that this flow chart to help determine denominational alignment could at least give you a head start.
  • If you're on the hunt to pick some strawberries, you can find a list of N.C Strawberry farms here.
  • The LGBTQ Center of Durham is hiring a new Assistant Director of the Youth Center. Applications are due April 29 at 5:00pm. (LGBTQ Center)
